This gigantic jet (an extremely rare type of lightning event) was photographed on May 12, 2005 (May 13 UTC) by both Roofus and Snoopy. It is the first photograph ever taken of a GJ over the North American continent. It was located in Mexico, south of Del Rio, Texas, approximately 250 miles from Roofus and Snoopy (see Science Paper 6 for more information). The video clip below was made by Roofus. Duration of the event was about 80 milliseconds but it looks longer in this video because Roofus was stacking 128 images to accumulate light before saving the composite to a hard drive.
